Preschool Assistant Teacher
The primary tasks of the preschool classroom assistant are to prepare the classroom for each group, to assist the teacher, and work with the teacher in providing a warm and enjoyable place to learn and play.
Assisting the teacher in the general supervision and management of a class of preschool children (be involved with the children, welcome the children and parents when they arrive, assist children who have trouble separating from parents, etc…);
Assisting the teacher in any other appropriate ways, always watching where help might be needed. This includes trips to the bathroom and assisting with ill children;
Assisting in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the teacher. This includes preparing snacks, making sure all art materials are out for the day, supervising lunch and snack time, cleaning, nap time routines, etc.
Assisting in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers preparing needed materials and supplies, preparing bulletin boards, and displaying children’s work;
Supervising the classroom when the teacher is out of the room;
Helping with general housekeeping tasks (cleaning room equipment and toys);
Treating all children with dignity and respect;
Understanding all school policies and working accordingly;
Attending the recommended training program and/or conference
We have three open positions for the 19-20 school year. All would involve working with our program which serves students ages 24 months – 5 Years. The available shifts are (when school is in session, Monday-Friday) 7:00AM-3:30PM, or 8:00AM-4:30PM or 10:00AM-6:00PM. Please indicate in your interest letter which time you would prefer if any. After School Assistants
St. Alphonsus Catholic School is looking for some assistants for our Extended Day program that goes from 1:45-6pm. Applicants must be at least 18 years old (17 year olds who turn 18 during the 19-20 school year will also be accepted), have taken a child development or related class in high school or college, and be willing to receive appropriate CPR training once hired. High School and College Volunteers
St. Alphonsus Catholic School is looking for high school and college volunteers who would be interested in supporting our school’s learning environment in the classrooms. Volunteers will always be under the teacher’s supervision and would assist in classroom activities. This is a wonderful opportunity for students who are able take a service class during the school day and are interested in learning more about child development.
